Heartlands

UK

Heartlands is one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe with £650 million being invested residentially and commercially, transforming the area into a hub where both people and business can really thrive.

This 1,500 acre site in West Lothian, Scotland was acquired in 2016 with planning permission for 2,000 diverse new homes, over 1.5 million square feet of commercial space, as well as retail and leisure facilities, all set in a lush green environment.

And it’s not just the surrounding area that’s green – sustainability is well and truly at the heart of the development.

The growing community was once the centre of Whitburn’s deep coal mining industry and home to Polkemmet Colliery until 1986 when it closed. However, in 2006 a new vision took shape as to the future of the Heartlands site which is completely unrecognisable from its recent past.

Some significant principles have been laid down for the site including: Recycling – wherever possible resources from the site were preserved to be reused at a later date in the regeneration; Ecology – trees and plants were removed from the barren landscape and brought back to life in the Heartlands nursery before being replanted across the new look site.

Today, the Heartlands vision is beginning to take shape, with well-known housebuilders, a multinational corporation, well-known international businesses, and new infrastructure already here.

WElink Homes are involved in self delivery as well as plot sales to UK plc housebuilders to fund site infrastructure requirements.

Planning permission being progressed for delivery of a WElink own phase of 48 homes in 2019.
